Every January, VIVA Aspire like to do a fun campaign to welcome everyone back to the offices and cheer up their January, and this year they asked me to come up with the concept, I knew this was going to be fun.

I’m a bit of a geek, always have been, gotta be really if you’re going to be any good in the web development game, and I cast my mind back to the cooler and more fun things of my generation, and it hit me! Space Invaders! it’s one of the coolest and most iconic games of all time.

But was that enough… No!

There’s a MASSIVE 3D kick going on right now, with 3D tv, 3D films, 3D mobile phones, but all this isn’t really new, yes using Stereoscopic glasses, but the same principles applied when I was a child watching Noels House Party’s Christmas (or was it Children in Need) 3D Scratch and Sniff episode, sat there wearing a pair of Red and Blue anaglyphic glasses SWEARING BLIND that it looked just like the real world coming out of the telly.

I would have LOVED to create a Stereoscopic Space Invaders game however that wasn’t feasible for a number of reasons, however does space invaders need Stereoscopic technology… No, Anaglyphic technology would do the job just as well, so with one of VIVA Aspire’s best graphics designers, I set to work about creating this awesome game, it started off with me trying to make the ships stand out, but that proved unrealistic as they were only 25 pixels in size, so what I considered was that objects in white stand out in front of any anaglyph anyhow, so making the alien ships in white and creating an anaglyphic star field behind them seemed like the logical option.

This campaign went out as a simple pair of 3D glasses with the web address on, in a carefully designed envelope, and then followed up with an EDM, there’s a section where you can request a pair of glasses and to the winner… a brand new latest generation iPod touch.

This is one campaign that I will NEVER forget!
